Health Canada proposes restrictions on the promotion of vaping products under the Tobacco and Vaping Product Act

Health Canada has proposed new regulations that would place stricter limits on the advertising and promotion of vaping products and make health warnings on vaping products mandatory. According to Health Canada, the proposed Vaping Products Promotion Regulations (the Proposed Regulations) under the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (TVPA) are a stated effort to mitigate the impact of vaping product promotion on young persons and non-users of nicotine containing products.

Cannabis regulations: Health Canada’s solution to support the Cannabis Act

The Cannabis Act will provide a comprehensive national framework for restricted access to regulated cannabis and control its production, distribution, sale, importation, exportation and possession. Within that framework, new sets of regulations were published on July 11, 2018, that spell out the rules and standards for authorized cannabis production, distribution, sale, importation and exportation among other things.

Cannabis legislation and regulation

The Liberal Party of Canada made the legalization of marijuana a priority during the 2015 federal election campaign and now the Liberal government has taken a step toward enacting that promise. On June 30, 2016, the Government of Canada launched a Task Force to advise it on the design of a legislative and regulatory framework for legal access to cannabis. The prescribed framework was the Government’s commitment in the 2015 Speech From the Throne to legalize, regulate, and restrict access to cannabis.
