Why you should not be setting up an Ontario non-profit corporation under the OCA today

The Ontario government passed the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) in 2010. It was originally expected to come into force in 2013, but it has been delayed a number of times. In December 2017, the Ontario government announced that it was “working to bring ONCA into force as early as possible, with a target of early 2020.”

CRA announces software errors in charity’s annual information return

On January 29, 2014, the Canada Revenue Agency announced that due to a software error, they will be sending out a second annual information return package to charities subject to the Ontario Corporations Act .

Ontario Not-for-profit Corporations Act delayed

I’ve lost count of the coming-into-force dates the government has set for the Ontario Not-for-profit Corporations Act to take effect, but this time at least it seems there’s a clear reason. The previous estimate for the law to come into force was July of this year; the new estimated date is “no earlier than” January 2014.
